Waila Harvestability answered the question every miner asks: can I actually break this with what I’m holding? It was a small add-on for Waila, and later Hwyla, that added a few lines to the tooltip: whether you can harvest the block, the harvest level it needs and the tool that works on it. Simple, and in a pack full of modded ores, very handy.
Waila Harvestability is no longer updated. Its last file, version 1.1.15 for Minecraft 1.16, came out on April 26, 2021, and it needs Waila or Hwyla, which have both stopped too. WTHIT now does the same job out of the box, and Jade shows the tool you need too.
This page replaces our old review. Nobody here has played these mods for this refresh; every fact comes from the official project pages and source code, checked on October 16, 2026.
What Waila Harvestability did
The CurseForge page describes it as “a client-side add-on for Waila or Hwyla that adds information about the harvestability of what you are looking at”. By default it showed three things:
- whether you can harvest the block with your current tool,
- the harvest level the block needs,
- the tool type that works best on it.
Waila’s module settings screen had many options to trim that down, including a minimal mode that fit it all on one line. The author notes it was “mostly intended for use with Tinkers’ Construct”, but the information applied to any pack.
It ran on Forge only. For Fabric, the page pointed players to a different mod, “Can I Mine This Block?”.

What shows harvestability now
A fork called WTHIT Harvestability carried it to WTHIT on Forge for a while, then stopped with this notice on its Modrinth page: “THIS PLUGIN IS DISCONTINUED, WTHIT NOW HAS A BUILT-IN HARVESTABILITY PLUGIN.”
| Mod | Loaders | Newest Minecraft | What it shows |
|---|---|---|---|
| WTHIT | NeoForge, Forge, Fabric, Quilt | 26.2 | Tool icons, or the classic harvestable, effective tool and level lines |
| Jade | NeoForge, Fabric, Quilt; Forge up to 1.20.4 | 26.3 | Tool icons with a tick or cross for your held tool |
| The One Probe | NeoForge, Forge up to 1.20.1, Fabric for 26.2 | 26.2 | The tool needed to harvest the block |
WTHIT: the closest match
WTHIT, the fork of Hwyla, ships its harvest plugin as part of the main mod, so there is nothing extra to download. The plugin source code defines three display modes:
- Modern draws one small icon per tool type at the bottom of the tooltip.
- Classic brings back the Waila Harvestability layout: a harvestable line with a green tick or red cross, an effective tool line with the tool names in green or red, and a level line for the tier.
- Classic minimal puts the tick, the tools and the tier on one line, like the old minimal mode.
The plugin also has options to switch it off and to show it in creative mode. If you miss the old add-on, set WTHIT to classic or classic minimal and you are most of the way there.
Jade: tool icons and a tick
Jade’s harvest tool provider shows the icon of each tool that can harvest the block. When the block needs the right tool for drops, it adds a tick if your held tool is correct and a cross if it is not. Its options include putting the tools on their own line, showing them in creative mode, and a notice for unbreakable blocks. Jade does not print the tier as text.
The One Probe
The One Probe lists the tool needed to harvest a block among its basic information. By default you see it only while you hold the probe item, and it must be installed on the server too.
How to install WTHIT
Our 2014 posts had you copy jars into .minecraft/mods by hand. A launcher does that part now. We use Prism Launcher here because it is free, open source and runs on Windows, macOS and Linux.
- Install Prism Launcher and sign in with your Microsoft account.
- Create an instance for your Minecraft version.
- Select it, click Edit, open the Version tab and add a loader: NeoForge, Fabric, Quilt or Forge.
- Open the Mods tab, click Download Mods and search for “WTHIT”. Add bad packets, which WTHIT needs on every loader. On Fabric or Quilt, add Fabric API too.
- Click OK and launch the game.
- In WTHIT’s settings, find the harvest options and set the display mode to classic if you want the old layout.
- For multiplayer, put WTHIT and bad packets on the server too. Simple features work client-only, but advanced ones need the server copy.
Pros
- Showed harvestability, tier and tool at a glance
- Minimal mode kept the tooltip short
- Lots of options in Waila’s module settings
Cons
- No update since April 2021
- Stops at Minecraft 1.16.5, Forge only
- Needs Waila or Hwyla, both discontinued
