ModReview is a reading site. You can read every page without an account, and the site collects only what it needs to run. This page lists what that is.
What the site does not do
- No tracking scripts. Page views are counted on the server, as described under Analytics.
- No ModReview cookies for readers. WordPress sets login cookies only for the people who edit the site.
- No comments and no reader accounts.
- No fonts, images or scripts from other sites. The one exception is the Contact page, described below.
Server logs
The web server records each request: the IP address it came from, the date and time, the page requested, the referring page and the browser’s user agent. A site search is part of the page address, so search terms appear in these logs too. We use the logs only to keep the site running and to block abuse.
Analytics
To count visits, the site’s server sends one record for each page view to OpenPanel, an analytics tool we run on our own server. No analytics script runs in your browser, and no analytics cookie is set.
Each record holds the page address and title, the referring site, your browser’s user agent and your IP address. OpenPanel uses the IP address to estimate your country and city, and to group page views into a visit. Page views from site editors and from known bots are not counted.
Cloudflare
All traffic to modreview.net passes through Cloudflare, which serves cached pages and filters attacks. Cloudflare sees your IP address and each request, and it can set its own security cookies. Its privacy policy explains what it keeps.
The contact form
The form on the Contact page sends your name, email address and message to the site. Each message is stored as a private entry in the site database, where only site administrators can read it. We use it to reply to you and for nothing else. Sending a message does not add you to a mailing list.
The Contact page also runs Cloudflare Turnstile, a check that tells people from bots without a puzzle. It loads a script from challenges.cloudflare.com on that page only. Cloudflare’s Turnstile privacy addendum lists the data it uses. To skip Turnstile, email [email protected] instead.
Advertising
ModReview plans to show ads through Google AdSense. No ads run on the site yet. This section describes what applies once they do.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google’s Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info.
- How Google uses information from sites that use its services explains what Google does with this data.
Sharing
We do not sell personal data. Cloudflare handles requests only to deliver the site, and OpenPanel runs on our own server. Once ads run, Google and its partners receive data as described under Advertising.
Your messages
To see, correct or delete a message you sent, email [email protected] from the same address.
Changes
When this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top.
