Pam’s HarvestCraft was the food mod. The 1.12.2 version lists 80 crops, 50 fruit or item-bearing trees, 19 fish and “1400+ new items and foods” on its CurseForge page. Load it into a pack and your hunger bar became a small cooking hobby. That was the appeal, and its CurseForge download count of almost 104 million says plenty of players agreed.
The original stops at Minecraft 1.12.2. Pam says so on the project page: “HarvestCraft 1 will not update past 1.12.2.” The mod lives on as Pam’s HarvestCraft 2, and it is no longer one big download. It is split into separate mods, so you pick the parts you want.
Nobody here has played through the new modules for this refresh. Everything below comes from the official CurseForge and Modrinth pages, checked on October 16, 2026.
What changed in HarvestCraft 2
HarvestCraft 2 splits the old mod into four main parts. Three of them work on their own; the fourth builds on the others.
Food Core
Food Core is the kitchen. Its summary promises “180ish new foods based on vanilla Minecraft ingredients”, with new textures drawn to sit well next to vanilla ones. You cook with tools: bakeware, a cutting board, a juicer, a grinder, a mixing bowl, a pot, a roller, a sauce pan and a skillet. Some generic recipes accept any fruit or vegetable from other mods, as long as that mod tags it correctly. Food Core runs alone or with the other modules.
Crops
Crops “adds 96 new crops, planted from their food items that drop from garden bushes”. The gardens come in six types: arid, frost, shaded, soggy, tropical and windy. They spawn in groups across the world in matching biomes, and you can change how often they appear in the config. Crops also works alone.
Trees
Trees adds 49 fruit-bearing trees: 17 temperate, 30 warm and 2 cold, sorted by the biomes they grow in. Vanilla trees stay as they are. Spawn frequency is in the config, and Trees works alone too.
Food Extended
Food Extended is the big recipe book, with “400+ new foods”. It is the one module with a hard rule. In Pam’s words: “This mod CANNOT BE USED ALONE.” You must install Food Core, and the recipes use the crops and fruit from Crops and Trees. Pam adds that another farming mod with properly tagged ingredients might stand in for those two, “but I am not responsible for the game having errors.”
There is also a smaller add-on, Fantasy, which adds “more than a dozen monster-based foods” on top of Food Core.
What to install now
Pick a line, install those modules, and keep them all on the same Minecraft version and loader:
- The full HarvestCraft experience: Food Core, Crops, Trees and Food Extended.
- Cooking only, from vanilla ingredients: Food Core.
- Farming only, for a pack that already has a cooking mod: Crops and Trees.
The original Pam’s HarvestCraft is still on CurseForge and Modrinth for 1.12.2 packs. Its last update was on March 18, 2020.
Version and loader support
| Minecraft | Loader | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 26.2 | NeoForge | New builds of all four modules, uploaded October 3, 2026 |
| 1.21.1, 1.21 | NeoForge | 1.21.1 builds updated through 2026 |
| 1.20.4 | Forge, NeoForge | The last version with Forge builds |
| 1.20.1 and older | Forge | Food Core has files for 1.20.1, 1.19.2 and 1.18.2 |
| 1.12.2 | Forge | The original Pam’s HarvestCraft, no longer updated |
There is no Fabric version. None of the HarvestCraft 2 pages lists Fabric, so Fabric players need a different food mod.
How to install Pam’s HarvestCraft 2
Our 2014 posts had you copy jars into .minecraft/mods by hand. A launcher does that part now. We use Prism Launcher here because it is free, open source and runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. The CurseForge app works in much the same way.
- Install Prism Launcher and sign in with your Microsoft account.
- Create an instance for Minecraft 26.2 or 1.21.1 if you want the newest modules.
- Select the instance, click Edit, open the Version tab and add NeoForge. For 1.20.1 or older, add Forge instead.
- Open the Mods tab and click Download Mods. CurseForge has the newest builds, so pick CurseForge as the source.
- Search for “Pam’s HarvestCraft 2” and select the modules you chose above. If you add Food Extended, add Food Core with it.
- Click OK to download, then launch the game.
- For multiplayer, put the same module files in the server’s
modsfolder. The modules are listed for both client and server.
The manual way
Install NeoForge or Forge for your Minecraft version. Download each module from CurseForge, check that the file name matches your loader and game version, and copy the jars into the mods folder of your game directory.
Pros
- Modular: install only the parts you want
- Hundreds of foods across Food Core and Food Extended
- Gardens and fruit trees spread through world generation, with config for spawn rates
- Still updated, with 26.2 builds from October 2026
Cons
- No Fabric version
- NeoForge only on versions after 1.20.4
- Food Extended cannot run alone
- Cooking needs a kit of nine tools, which some players will find fussy
