The Real Life Mod tried to turn Minecraft into everyday life. It added kitchens, toilets, traffic lights, trucks and a computer for buying and selling, plus thirst and a toilet need for your player. Its author, ItsAMysterious, put the goal in one line: the mod “aims to bring a realistic feeling of life into Minecraft”.
The mod has had no update in more than six years. The newest file on CurseForge is 0.0.1 Alpha for Minecraft 1.12.2, from July 1, 2020. The version numbers started over with that build. Before that, the last builds were 0.33 for Minecraft 1.7.10 in June 2015 and 0.43 beta for 1.8 in September 2015. The project still calls itself an “early alpha”.
We first covered the Real Life Mod here in 2014, when it was a Minecraft 1.7.10 mod. This page replaces that post. Nobody here has played it for this update; every fact comes from the author’s Minecraft Forum thread and the CurseForge page, checked on October 16, 2026.
What the Real Life Mod added
ItsAMysterious opened the forum thread on August 28, 2014. By 2015 the thread named a team of three: ItsAMysterious as lead developer and 3D modeler, Jigga_Jones on graphics and hosting, and LRA_10 on Minecraft-style models. The feature list below comes from the 1.7.10 versions.
Blocks and furniture
The block list reads like a house tour: chairs, tables, desks, a sideboard and drawers, a freezer, a dishwasher, a kitchen sink, a coffee machine, a toilet bowl, a fish tank and a fireplace. The toaster has its own note: “Put in a bread and get a toast!” Outside, you got tarmac with road lines, curbstones, crash barriers, park benches, lanterns, working traffic lights and a traffic system computer.
Vehicles, people and items
- Vehicles. A MAN TGX truck, a Jeep Cherokee and a Lanz Bulldog tractor, with what the thread calls “realistic vehicles+driving dynamics”.
- Workers. Firefighters, police officers and other NPCs, placed with an NPC placer item.
- Chatterbot. A talking robot named zanor. Type
/spawnHelperbotto spawn it. - Food and drink. Coffee, cappuccino, espresso, tea, toast, french fries, noodle soup and more.
- Electronics and tools. An MP3 player, a USB stick, binoculars and a chainsaw.
- Weapons. An AK47, an Uzi and a rocket launcher.
Realistic survival
Your player gets thirsty and needs the toilet. Money comes in through the computer block, where you buy and sell blocks and items. Press L to open character customization for name, hair and eye color, which the thread marked as a work in progress. You could also switch between high-resolution 3D models and Minecraft-style ones.
The plans went much further: diseases and doctor visits, jobs, your own in-game company, laws with fines and a radio that plays CDs. The thread lists these as future features, not as part of the 1.7.10 builds.
Version history
| Minecraft | Files | Dates |
|---|---|---|
| 1.7.10 | 25 builds, 0.15 to 0.33 | March 15 to June 28, 2015 |
| 1.8 | 4 betas, up to 0.43 | September 12 to 25, 2015 |
| 1.12.2 | 0.0.1 Alpha | July 1, 2020 |
The thread lists Minecraft Forge as a requirement.
Mods that cover the same ground today
No single mod replaced the Real Life Mod. Two active mods cover its biggest parts, furniture and survival needs:
| Mod | Does | Loaders | Newest Minecraft |
|---|---|---|---|
| Macaw’s Furniture | Wardrobes, drawers, chairs, desks, couches, sinks, tables | NeoForge, Fabric, Forge | 26.3 |
| Tough As Nails | Thirst and body temperature | NeoForge, Fabric, Forge | 26.2 |
Macaw’s Furniture
Macaw’s Furniture, by sketchmacaw, is about furniture in different styles. You can stack pieces on top of each other, merge them to make them wider or taller, store items in them and sit on the chairs. On Fabric it needs Fabric API.
Tough As Nails
Tough As Nails, by Glitchfiend, makes survival harder with thirst and body temperature. On Minecraft 1.20.4 and newer it needs GlitchCore, and on Fabric it also needs Fabric API.
Install both with a launcher such as Prism Launcher. Our Prism Launcher guide shows how.
